Embedding global awareness, ethical judgement and societal engagement across the student experience.
Purpose
This initiative establishes a university-wide World‑Ready Graduate Framework that defines the shared identity, capabilities and attributes of all UOW graduates.
The Framework provides a cohesive foundation for curriculum, work-integrated learning (WIL), career development learning and co-curricular experiences, enabling students to develop, demonstrate and articulate their capabilities across their degree.
By connecting existing strengths into a unified institutional approach, the initiative strengthens employability, supports lifelong learning, and enhances UOW’s contribution to industry, community and society.

Context
The higher education sector is facing increasing expectations to demonstrate the value of graduates, including employability outcomes, capability development and contribution to industry and society. Students, employers, communities, accreditors and government stakeholders increasingly expect clearer evidence of graduate capability and how learning translates into professional, civic and global impact.
This initiative responds to these expectations by connecting UOW’s existing strengths into a cohesive institutional approach. It aligns with UOW Strategic Plan 2030 ambitions for employability, global competencies, cultural awareness and community contribution, while supporting quality assurance, accreditation and external recognition of the UOW graduate experience.
The initiative is also informed by sector-wide discussions about strengthening universities’ social licence, deepening partnerships with industry, government and community, and ensuring graduate capability is visible, meaningful and consistently supported across the student lifecycle.
Approach
UOW will establish a unified, institution-wide model for graduate capability that integrates identity, learning experiences and evidence of achievement across the student lifecycle. The initiative will be delivered as a coordinated institutional plan with two interdependent streams:
- World-Ready Graduate Framework: the umbrella identity and capability framework that defines the values, mindsets, capabilities and perspectives expected of UOW graduates.
- Work-Ready Graduate Project: a major implementation stream that operationalises the framework through professional practice, WIL, career development learning, industry/community engagement, applied learning and immersive learning practices (please refer to work-ready initiative)
Together, these streams are supported by integrated systems, curriculum alignment and evidence architecture to enable consistent, scalable implementation across the University.
